What Is an Assessment?

An assessment is a one-on-one conversation with a licensed or trained professional who will walk you through questions related to your mental health, substance use, history, and overall well-being. It’s not a test or a judgment. It’s a starting point for support.

We use this process to:

  • Understand your current situation
  • Identify any mental health or substance use concerns
  • Explore your strengths, needs, and goals
  • Determine the most appropriate level of care
  • Provide recommendations for services, resources, or referrals

Assessments typically take 60–90 minutes.

Get an assessment if

  • You’re seeking help for the first time
  • You’ve recently relapsed or completed treatment
  • You’re struggling with mental health symptoms and not sure where to turn
  • A court, provider, or family member has recommended you connect with support
  • You want clarity about your needs and next steps

What Happens Next?

After your assessment, our team will follow up with a clear plan based on your needs. This could include enrolling in services at Amethyst, getting connected to outside resources, or beginning recovery coaching or outpatient care. Whatever the outcome, we stay with you to help guide the process.
